Get to Know: Brantley Sasseen

Why did you get into Personal Injury Law? “I got into personal injury law because I’ve seen the devastation that accidents and injuries can wreak upon people’s lives. I lost my grandfather to a drunk driving wreck when I was in high school, and my grandmother passed away as a result of a wreck in 2015. I understand what a tremendous feeling of loss and helplessness these incidents cause, and it’s important to me to do what I can to help people who are struggling with the same things.”

What does “client first” mean to you? “Client first means treating every client of ours the way I would want to be treated—the way I would treat a family member or close friend when handling any legal matter. More than that, it means trying to bring any individual client some peace of mind and reassurance that we will help them in any way possible while trying to bring their case to the most favorable resolution.  Client first means doing more than just what is required, going above and beyond for each and every client each and every time they put their trust in us.”

How do you celebrate after a big win for a client? “Honestly, my celebration after a big win for a client comes when I’m able to see the relief and satisfaction on a client’s face. The best feeling after a big win is knowing that you’ve done a great job for your client and knowing how much it means to them.”

What does it mean to you to work for Stewart J Guss, Attorney at Law? “Working for the firm means a great deal to me.  I know that the work I’m doing is honest and worthwhile, and I feel that I have not just another job but a place where I can build a lasting career. Most importantly, it working here affords me a sense of pride knowing the respect and appreciation I receive from our clients and staff.”

Do you have any hidden talents or surprising hobbies? “I like to sing! I’m actually a bit shy about doing so around lots of people, but I’ll get out there and karaoke with the best of them!”

What did you think you were going to be when growing up? “I was enamored of the story of Louis Pasteur when I was quite young, and it made me want to be an inventor. What I thought I would be and wanted to be changed a lot until I reached my later years in high school and experienced speech and debate. From that point on, I wanted to be an attorney.”

What is your go to comfort food? “Hard to pick just one. I have Lebanese heritage on my father’s side, so I’ve always loved Lebanese food. Of course, being a good Southern boy as well, any down-home Southern-style meal is right up my alley as well. Slow-roasted pork or beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, cream corn casserole, and green beans is a path straight to my heart.”

What is your favorite TV show or movie? “Lately, I’ve enjoyed Westworld, Pose, and The Magicians on TV.  Driving Miss Daisy is one of my favorite movies—there’s something profound about the unexpected growth of love over time.”

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends? “I definitely like to decompress with some video games. I also enjoy traveling to see my family on the weekends.”

If you could know more about one thing, what would it be? “I wish I knew more about self-sufficient living. Things like agriculture, carpentry, masonry, etc. I’ve always thought those would be great skills to have regardless of one’s profession or position.”
