Get to Know: Jason Ruen

What does “client first” mean to you? “Personal injury deals with people in a lot of pain, both physical and mental.  Putting the client first, to me, means that I need to always remember that, every single time I work on their case.  It’s their pain, but it’s my calling to help them through it. I’ve had the privilege of helping to send kids to college after they lost a parent, helped to provide surgery for someone without health insurance or any money to pay, and I have been able to replace income for someone who has lost the ability to work.  Those results appeal to me like no other area of law.”

What does it mean to you to work for Stewart J. Guss, Attorney at Law? “It is GREAT.  I get to work with some of the best people I have ever met, all of which share a vision of helping people who have been hurt get the best possible recovery under the law.  We treat people the way they should be treated, and we are very successful in doing it.  We can’t help everyone, and sometimes we can’t get the result that we want, but we always try our hardest to get the best possible result for our clients, and that helps me sleep at night.”

How do you celebrate after a big win for a client?  “My favorite way is to shake my client’s hand while giving them the good news.  Afterwards I might celebrate with a glass of whiskey or scotch.”

Do you have any hidden talents or surprising hobbies?  “I can ride horses and have run three marathons and multiple obstacle course races (Warrior Dashes and Alpha Warrior).”

What did you think you were going to be when growing up?  “I thought I was going to be a pilot until I realized my eyes weren’t going to cut it.”

What is your go-to comfort food?  “Diet Dr. Pepper.”

What is your favorite TV show or movie? “The Princess Bride.”

If you could know more about one thing, what would it be?  “How to convince a jury to do the right thing every time.”
