I’ve been representing my fellow Houstonians that have been in car wrecks for over 15 years. But more than that, I grew up in Houston. I learned how to drive in Houston. You and I both know that if you drive in Houston long enough, you’re going to get into a car wreck. So the question is – what are you supposed to do? Well, first and foremost, if anyone is injured, call 911, get medical help. Second thing you want to do, call the police. It may take them a while to get there, but it’s important that you wait because the officer’s report may be the most important piece of evidence in your personal injury claim. While you’re waiting, feel free to exchange insurance information with the other parties in the wreck. But do me a favor and keep other conversation to a minimum.
The other thing that you can do while waiting, if you have a phone with a camera, go ahead and take pictures of the vehicles involved in the accident and take pictures of the scene of the collision. But only do that if it’s safe. Please don’t go dancing out into traffic just to take these pictures. That’s not worth it. I’m a personal injury lawyer but I’m a father and a husband as well. I remember one night I was on the way home and my phone rang. It was my wife. She was hysterical. She and my daughter had just been in a car wreck. I can remember clearly my wife screaming at me “We’re covered in glass, we’re covered in glass.” I’ve been where you are. I know what it feels like to have your life turned upside down by a car accident. But I want you to know I will take care of you, just like I took care of my wife and my daughter.
